Chelsea Boss Graham Potter Faces ‘Unmanageable Situation’

Chelsea manager Graham Potter faces an “unmanageable situation” with his inflated squad, says former Blues goalkeeper Rob Green.

The club have spent £583m on new players in the past two transfer windows under owner Todd Boehly, with eight new signings arriving in January.

They have won just two of their past 14 games but Potter retains the support of Boehly and the club’s board.

“With the amount of players there, it’s an unmanageable situation,” said Green.

Potter moved to Chelsea from Brighton in September on a five-year deal following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel.

The Blues have won nine of their 25 games under Potter and sit 10th in the Premier League, 10 points off the Champions League places.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club, Green said: “Once the crowd turns, it starts to get ugly and the players get affected and go into their shells.

“You can already see it from the players, from an attacking perspective and then it gets harder.”

Chelsea have not scored twice in a game since the start of November and despite all of their new arrivals in January, they were unable to sign a recognised striker.

Former Blues striker Chris Sutton said Potter “has had a lot to deal with”.

“With so many players coming in, he is uncertain on his starting line-up so he has chopped and changed and you never get continuity when you do that,” Sutton said on the Monday Night Club.

“Goalscoring is a problem. But I like that Todd Boehly, on the face of it, is backing him long-term.”

The Blues are next in action on Sunday at fourth-placed Tottenham (13:30 GMT).
