Mason Greenwood to be offered ‘fresh start’ away from Man Utd; Paul Pogba could play a role in move

Currently suspended Manchester United attacker Mason Greenwood could be offered a ‘fresh start’ by Juventus, according to reports.

The Serie A giants have ‘made it clear’ they are ‘very interested’ in giving the 21-year-old a route back to the top level of European football.

Greenwood could potentially join former teammate Paul Pogba at the Allianz Stadium. Indeed, the French midfielder could potentially play a key role in helping Juventus complete the move.

This is according to the Sun, who claim Juventus want to sign Greenwood on a long-term loan deal this summer. Also, they add Roma and AC Milan could try and sign him.

The former England international has been linked with moves to Turkish clubs in the past. So, there is no shortage of interest in him at the moment.

Greenwood has been suspended by Man Utd since he was arrested on suspicion of rape and other related offences in January 2022.

Although the charges against him were dropped in February 2023 due to the withdrawal of witnesses and new material coming to light, Man Utd are still conducting their own internal investigation.

As it stands, though, it seems highly unlikely Greenwood will play for Man Utd again.

Juventus consider loan approach for Greenwood

Greenwood still has two years left on his £75,000-per-week contract at Old Trafford. Before the controversy, the youngster was widely considered to be one of the hottest prospects in Europe.

Now, however, Man Utd reportedly ‘fear’ that they will not be able to garner a substantial transfer fee for the Englishman.

As a result, a long term loan could be Greenwood’s best chance of a move. But, the club he joins will have to cover all of his wages.

This will give Juventus hope that they can seal a deal for Greenwood this summer. And, as mentioned, they allegedly ‘plan’ to use Pogba to help beat competition to the attackers signature.

Before his suspension, Greenwood made 129 appearances for Man Utd overall. In the process, he scored 35 goals and made 12 assists, giving him an average of 0.36 goal contributions per game.

A versatile player, he has the ability to play as a winger on either flank or as a centre-forward. So, he could provide cover in multiple areas for Max Allegri as Juventus next season.

As noted, Juve are joined by AC Milan, Roma and several Turkish clubs  in the race for Greenwood. Therefore, it will be interesting to see who signs him in the coming months.
