Quincy Orange wins Oriole Golf Classic

COLDWATER – The 2024 version of the Oriole Classic, formerly known as Quincy’s All Sports Day, concluded on Thursday with the Quincy Golf Invitational. The event was the culmination of a weekend of action in and around Quincy, with the annual track and invitational held on Friday, followed by baseball, softball, and soccer on Saturday, and golf on Thursday.

Teams from top to bottom battled the elements as rain and wind played havoc with the playing conditions at Coldwater’s Golf Course. In the end, however, it was the home team Orioles that came away victorious, winning the championship of their home invitational with a team score of +38.

The Orioles entered two different squads into the invitational, designated Orange and Black, and it was Quincy Orange taking the trophy, led by event medalist Keegan Neely who carded a +3 on the weather shortened nine-hole course to bring home the first medalist win of his career.

Ten teams made the trip to Coldwater to compete in this year’s invitational, with Quincy Orange followed by White Pigeon in second at a +44, Kalamazoo Loy Norrix in third place with a +50, Mendon at a +50, and Union City at a +51.

Rounding out the scoring for Quincy was Braylon Estlow with a +8, good enough to tie for third; Grant Carter with a +9, which tied him for ninth place; Caleb Bostic with a +18; and Belle Neely with a +23.

Quincy’s Black Team, made up of mostly junior varsity players, finished in seventh place with a score of +70. Quincy Black was led by Jax Sargent who fired a +12.

Union City’s fifth place finish was paced by junior Logan Mears who carded an +8, good enough to tie hm for fourth place.
